And yet, these financial problems are only distracting us from an even more fundamental threat: our food supply. To put it plainly, we can no longer take our food supply for granted. We are fast approaching the day when unfettered access to adequate, nourishing, fresh food will be little more than a memory for many Americans.
We’ve seen it happen in other countries: food riots, subsistence diets, and malnourishment. We assume it can’t happen here. We are kidding ourselves.
